PRIVACY NOTICE
Your household’s notes stay yours.
Effective date: to be set when published
Sparky’s Notebook is a shared notebook for a household’s dogs and the people who care for them. This notice explains, in plain language, what the app collects, who can see it, how long it is kept and how to delete it.
Who we are
Sparky’s Notebook is made by Lani Bass. For any privacy question or request, email lani@lionsparks.com.
The short version
- We collect what you and your household put into the notebook, plus your email address so you can sign in.
- We don’t show ads, sell your information, or use analytics or tracking tools.
- The app doesn’t ask for or record your location.
- Visit photos are kept for 30 days, then deleted.
- You can delete your account in the app at any time.
What we collect
About you
- Your email address, used to send your sign-in code. The app has no passwords.
- Your display name, shown to the people in your households.
- Your role in each household (parent or walker) and the access a parent gives you.
- A notification token for your phone, if you turn on notifications, so we can send them to that phone.
About your household and dogs
- The household name and its time zone, taken from your phone when the household is created.
- Each dog’s name and profile photo, if you add one.
- Care records: walk start and end times, pee, poop, meals, medicine given, check-in and checkout times, visit notes and dog notes, and who recorded each one and when.
- Care instructions, and medicine and feeding plans.
- Photos taken during a visit or added to a care record.
- Invitations: the email address a parent enters for the person they invite, and the invitation code. The app doesn’t send emails to the people you invite; you share the code yourself.
Kept only on your phone
- Your Light or Dark appearance choice.
What we don’t collect
- No location or GPS. Photos are uploaded without location details. Confirm with the pre-launch photo check.
- No contacts, no browsing activity, and no advertising identifiers.
- No payment information. The pilot has no purchases.
How we use it
- To run the shared notebook: showing each dog’s care to the right people in the household.
- To sign you in with an emailed code.
- To send parents notifications when a walker checks in or out, or when a medicine dose is given.
- To keep the app working safely, for example preventing the same dose from being recorded twice.
- To answer you when you contact us.
We don’t use your information for advertising, and we don’t sell or rent it to anyone.
Who can see it
- Parents in a household see that household’s dogs, care records, notes, photos, instructions and plans.
- Walkers see only what the household’s parents allow, for example today’s walks and meals, certain care instructions, or medicine. Walkers always see the care they record themselves during a visit.
- When a walker’s access ends, they keep seeing only the household’s name, marked “Access ended”. They can no longer see its dogs or care.
- We don’t make anything public. Photos are stored privately and shown in the app through links that expire after a few minutes.
Services that help run the app
These companies process information only to provide their service to Sparky’s Notebook:
| Service | What it does | What it handles |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Database, sign-in and private photo storage | Everything the app stores. Region: to be confirmed |
| Expo, and Apple’s push notification service | Delivering notifications to parents’ phones | The notification token and the notification text, such as the walker’s name, the dog’s name and the time |
| Email delivery service | Sending sign-in codes | Your email address and the code |
We may also share information if the law requires it.
How long we keep it
| Information | How long |
|---|---|
| Visit and care photos | Shown in the app for 30 days from when they were recorded. A daily cleanup then deletes the image, normally within the next 24 hours. The care record stays and shows “Photo expired”. |
| Removed photos | Deleted by the next daily cleanup. |
| A dog’s current profile photo | Kept until a parent replaces it or the household is deleted. A replaced profile photo is deleted by the daily cleanup. |
| Photos that were uploaded but never attached | Deleted after 24 hours. |
| Care records, notes, instructions and plans | Kept while the household exists, so the family has its history. Corrections and removals keep a record of what changed. |
| Notification tokens | Removed when you sign out or delete your account, or when your phone stops accepting notifications. |
| Backups | Deleted information can remain in our hosting provider’s backups for up to [number] days before it is overwritten. |
Saving photos to your phone
The app never adds a photo to your phone’s photo library on its own. A walker’s visit photo is not saved to the walker’s phone. A parent can choose Save to Photos for a photo while it is still available. A saved copy is yours, lives on your phone, and isn’t affected by the 30-day cleanup or by deleting your account.
Deleting your account
In the app, open Account, then Delete account. If you can’t use the app, see Delete your account.
- If you own a household, deleting your account deletes the household for everyone: its dogs, care records, notes, instructions, plans and photos. Co-parents and walkers lose access.
- If you don’t own a household, your access ends everywhere and your sign-in is deleted. Care you recorded stays in each family’s history, with the author shown as “Deleted user”, because it is part of their dog’s care record. Confirm what happens to invitation records that hold your email.
Deletion can’t be undone. Signing in again later with the same email starts a new, empty account.
Your choices and rights
- Correct: change your display name in Account. You can correct or remove care you recorded on the same day, and parents can correct any care record and edit dog details.
- Get a copy: during the pilot, email us and we’ll send a copy of your information by hand.
- Notifications: turn them on or off in Account or in your phone’s settings.
- Delete: as described above.
Depending on where you live, you may have other privacy rights. Email us and we’ll help.
Keeping it safe
Information travels over encrypted connections. Each household’s records and photos are protected by access rules that limit them to that household’s members, and photos are never stored in a public place. No system is perfectly secure, so please tell us right away if you think something is wrong.
Children
Sparky’s Notebook is for adults who care for dogs. It isn’t meant for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their information. Confirm.
Changes to this notice
If we change this notice, we’ll post the new version here and update the effective date. If a change affects how your existing information is used, we’ll tell you in advance.
